Hi, I’m Katie!

Born in Dorset on the south coast of the UK, I grew up by the seaside. I still miss the waves and salty air… but being surrounded by these Alpine mountains is a pretty amazing compromise.

So, to be honest, I never thought I would become a hairdresser. I actually believed it was beyond me — that I wouldn’t be good enough or strong enough for such a demanding career. But I pushed myself, and choosing hairdressing is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It shaped my life in ways I could never have imagined.

My journey began over 20 years ago. My mum, a hairdresser herself, inspired me first — cutting friends’, family’s, and neighbours’ hair in our kitchen. My sister also trained, and with my creative, artistic nature at school, it all started to make sense. Then my best friend said, “Let’s do hairdressing together, that looks fun!” And that was it — I began my training.

I started at my local college and quickly realised how much I loved hair: the ever-evolving styles, the creativity, the precision of cutting, colouring techniques and hair-up styles — and the joy of helping people feel relaxed, happy, and confident. Being the perfectionist I am, I kept aiming higher. I built my reputation, qualified further, and worked my way through salons across the county before joining Aveda, where I eventually became a Head Stylist and had the privilege of teaching new creatives entering the industry.

As my skills and confidence grew, I used hairdressing to fuel another passion of mine — travel. No matter where you go in the world, someone always needs a haircut.

This led me on incredible adventures: backpacking through Australia, cutting hair in hostels for a few dollars, then landing career-changing roles in luxury salons in the heart of Sydney. After a few years of Aussie life, I wanted something different, so I joined P&O cruise ships as a hairdresser and sailed across the Caribbean and Mediterranean styling hair and meeting people from all walks of life — each journey teaching me something new and shaping who I am today.

Then came the mountains. I initially planned just one season, thinking I could “kind of ski” and that Verbier would be my final adventure. I wasn’t even sure I’d get the job! But the universe opened the door — for me and a good friend — we found ourselves working in a prestigious salon here in Verbier. And something just clicked. I fell in love with the mountains, the lifestyle, the summers, the challenges, the losses, the community, and the wonderful people, whom some I have the pleasure to do hair for.

What began as a season became a life. And here in Verbier, I’ve been able to create my hair dream: Hair by Katie.

I’m more passionate than ever about what I do. The hair industry is always evolving — new techniques, new products, new technologies — and I genuinely believe you never stop learning. My goal is simple: to give you a warm, personalised experience tailored to your hair needs, using high-quality products and leaving you feeling confident and cared for.
